Greensboro: Partners in Childcare
Partners in Childcare
608 Battleground Avenue
Website: http://partnersinchildcare.com/
Located on the north edge of downtown, between NewBridge Stadium and Fisher Park--across the street from Green Hill Cemetery.
Partners is convenient for several important reasons:
• the hours are 7-6, which works out well if you have an 8am class.
• they take infants as young as six weeks.
• this summer, they've allowed a faculty member to bring her 8-month-old on a drop-in basis, for which she paid by the day rather than for the full week.
• because many Partners parents are teachers (K-12 or university faculty), they'll let you go part-time or no-time during the summer and still have a full-time spot reserved for August. Many centers require you to pay throughout the summer to hold onto your spot during the academic year. Of course, if they fill up, they might change this policy.
The center is clean and well-staffed, with very little turnover. One faculty member's almost-seven-year-old daughter went there for pre-K and was extremely well prepared, socially and academically, for Kindergarten. Now, her 8-month-old daughter is in the nursery, and most of the same teachers are there from three years ago. Even the substitute teachers are the same.
The owner and directors are on a first-name basis with every parent and they visit the classrooms frequently and, thus, have a good relationship with each child.
They serve a hot lunch and morning and afternoon snacks. If you have special dietary restrictions, they're happy to work with you.
The tuition is reasonable for this area. It's not the cheapest, but it's also not the most expensive.

Between Greensboro/Elon: Twin Oaks
Graham: A Storybrook Farm
Located on Rt 54 between Graham and Pittsboro. Vern Nice People, and reasonably priced. One big advantage is that if the kids don't go one day they don't charge you for that day. They also can take children on short notice because they call in more people as the need arises.

They have the most up-to-date, behind-the-scenes info on licensed providers, as well as a child-care referral and parent advice info. May I suggest beginning w/the radial bar labeled “Parents” on the home page.
